Blog nine - Conclusive Thoughts
Over the past few months of creating this solo I have learnt new skills which I can use going forwards. Overall, I found the process to be quite stressful in terms of meeting deadlines and having to have created enough ideas to bring to the next lesson, to piece together with other peoples’ ideas. However, I did find it interesting seeing where you can develop your research from small ideas of a chosen stimulus, drawing a bigger image which can be incorporated in your work. I sometimes found that I struggled to come up with choreography which related to my stimulus, and I often fell back to movements which felt familiar. In the future I might challenge myself to try to create movements which wouldn't necessarily be my go-to and are ‘different’.
I enjoyed the collaboration aspect of this process as it enabled us to come up with a starting point if we were stuck, and it also helped generate new ideas faster as there was more input from people – this something I would like to include more of if I were to repeat this process. In general, I think our time management as a group was quite good, although there were times when we didn’t quite the deadlines according to our plan, meaning we had to spend more time outside of the lesson time to catch up. Equally, I think our plan was slightly more ambitious than the time we had to achieve what we set out to do each week, as teaching each of our sections took more time than we had anticipated.
Although I think that creating choreography is useful to developing skills as a dancer enabling us to be more creative, I feel like this isn’t something that I would want to go into in the future, and I find myself more inclined to go down the route of dancing in a piece of choreography rather than creating it. Although, this might change as I continue this choreographic journey in the next two years as I become more familiar with creating choreography.
Below is an image from our solo.

would you do anything different if could go back.
